Full Title:  Collection of 47 engraved plates from the (Atlas du) Journal des Connaissances Médico-Chirurgicales, c.1830-60.

DESCRIPTION:

This is an interesting collection of 47 anatomical plates (some coloured) from the Journal des Connaissances Médico-Chirurgicales. Paris, c.1830-60. In Folio. Most plates are numbered with titles, but the numbering is not sequential. The plates were gathered from various sources and bound for specific use in the study of anatomy or surgery. They likely served as a quick anatomical reference. There are 47 plates, all anatomical diagrams of various human parts, including the heart, eyes, skull, neck, chest, leg, and male genitals. Twenty of the 47 plates are coloured.

Bound with marbled boards and leather spine. Good condition, with significant peel at the head of the spine with loss of leather and scuffing, corners bumped and other wear of boards (see photographs). The plates are mostly in good shape, with some issues, stains, and discoloration. Because it is a gathered binding of collected pages from other sources, paper edges are frayed, folded, split, and worn. There is a water stain on some pages at the spine, along with foxing and some tears. The plates are still bright. One plate with a diagram of the heart has a large tear through the centre, tearing it almost in half; else good (see photographs for further details).
