Very rare 1st edition thus, illustrated and with textual notes. This edition with advertisements paginated in with text and notes by W. Mason. Embellished with stunning engraved copper plates. 13 in total with 14 called for. One plate (the last one, #14) is lacking. The 8th plate, is a lavish folding plate depicting the battle. Also includes a frontispiece. Bound with contemporary 1/2 dark brown leather hardboards and marbled paper coverings. Five raised bands on spine, each band decorated with gold gilt lines. Black morocco leather spine label with gold gilt titling, plain brown end-papers.
CONDITION: Very good; clean, unmarked text; text is complete & collated with one plate engraving lacking (#14); rubbed corners and mildly scuffed edges of 1/2 leather boards; minimal stains; occasional foxing; darkening of pages near where plate is missing; one engraving (#6) has come loose but still present(as pictured); minor tear, top-most seam separation & slight damaging of folding-plate; ink of several of the engravings has bled through to the neighbouring pages BOOK MEASUREMENTS: 21 cm X 13.5 cm TOTAL LENGTH: 344 pages |
