DESCRIPTION:
VERY RARE 12th edition without errata. A later printing of the 12th edition wherein can be found corrected the erratum of the 11th edition. Presumed to be the c-variant of the 12th edition, printed on slightly longer paper. Printed in London for Tho. Osborne, S. Crowder, and R. Baldwin published c.1761. Considered a possible pirated edition because of lacking advertisement and title page, and as well is without signatures of Hoyle & Osborne.
This edition is highly valued for its addition of two new cases at Whist, never before printed. Meets collation of 12th edition. Whist to p.86, Quadrille to p.115 (verso blank), Piquet & Chess to p.168, Backgammon to p.212, Two New Cases p.213-214.
Binding was neatly repaired some time ago with marbled paper hardboards. Remnant of contemporary calf binding includes gilt titling and red morocco label. Includes separate title pages for each of Quadrille (4th edition), Piquet and Chess (4th edition), and Backgammon (5th edition).
CONDITION: Good condition. Lacks title page and signature. Rebound in marble hardboards with original spine, rubbed spine ends as well as scuffing and wear of spine leather, hinges sound and securely attached, interior excellent with mild aging of pages. BOOK MEASUREMENTS: 6.5 in X 3.75 in |
