Description: Lovely early printing of Anne of Green Gables (1918) in the beautiful gold/yellow/tan cloth boards, following the style of the 1908 1st edition, with an inlay portrait of Anne-girl, her auburn hair worn up, and perhaps wearing puffed sleeves. Illustrated with 3 plates along with illustrated frontispiece. Complete with 10 pages of advertisement at the rear. 38th printing, of which 150,000 copies were issued.
These beloved early editions are getting harder and harder to find.
CONDITION: Good Condition. Front hinge cracked with some splitting, the back hinge is loose, but the binding is still tight. Front and back boards with stains, discolourations, rubbing and scratches. Edge and corner wear, head and tail of spine bumped. Front endpapers with marks from the Howland Library: library bookplate on front pastedown, and library stamp on front free endpaper with smudge from ink on the lower portion of the page. Page 3 creased from a fold, tear on page 18 at lower margin, no loss. Some minor issues with foxing and staining, including a small ink stain at fore-edge. Several minor tears at page edge, likely from poor cutting. A few instances of underlining in pencil. Else good. BOOK MEASUREMENTS: 32 cm X 20.5 cm TOTAL LENGTH: vi,429 [10] pages. |
