According to Saintyves, the first edition of the book was printed in 1740, and later editions continued until 1852. The copy here for sale is an early edition, dated 1743, the colophon reads, "Colophon: "Fait à Paris ce 30 Novembre 1740 Janvier 1741. Signé, SIMON".
The book itself is likely a pseudo-epigraph; the author, Thomas-Joseph Moult, is thought to be a fictitious invention. This copy is bound in marbled boards.
CONDITION: Good condition overall, with spine peeled and binding cracked but still bound; pages cut unevenly, with wear to page edges, title-page cut short; textblock clean with some wrinkles and minor stains; old bookseller notes on front free endpaper; Collated complete, 96 p. ; 18mo.
