Deck: 19th century Thomas De La Rue & Co. English Playing Cards

 

Description:  c.1855-65 De La Rue & Co. Playing Cards with Owen Jones Emblem of the Princess of Wales, no indices and one-way pips. Incomplete with 51/52 cards.  Chromolithographic stencils.

 

Deck Identifiers:

· Ace: a three pence duty card designed by Owen Jones, bearing maker's name "De La Rue & Co."

· Stencils: chromolithograph

· Reverses: printed with the arms of the Princess of Wales on a ground of lilies

· Pips: one-way

· Indices: No indices

· Style: turned courts


CONDITION:

Good condition; incomplete, 48/52 cards (lacking K of hearts, 3 of spades, 8 of clubs, & 9 of diamonds); signs of wear and soiling from use; occasional stains; rubbed edges and bumped corners; age discoloration and minor signs of patina. (see photographs)
