Description: The Ancien Tarot de Marseille was designed by Paul Marteau and first published in 1930 by B.P. Grimaud. The deck sold here, is a later edition published in c.1940. Marteau designed his deck after the 1760 Tarot de Marseille by Nicholas Conver, specifically after a Conver deck printed in the later 19th century by Philippe Camoin.
21 trump cards + the unnumbered fool card (a sort of wild card, or joker, in the deck), 4 suits with 14 cards per series. Cartouches written with French titles. Card reverses are patterned with blue rectangle and dots on very sturdy paste-board card-stock.
