DESCRIPTION: Rare early edition of the Livre de Thot 78 Tarots Egyptiens, manufactured by Z. Lismon in Paris, France. Unknown publication date; painted stencils.
Grand Etteilla design known as Type II with 22 Major Arcanum & 56 Minor Suits. No tax-stamp. Unbroken wreath of card #74 shows this is an earlier printing of the Lismon Etteilla Tarot Thoth. The printing block of card #74 was later broken during printing, thereby affecting all later decks.
Printed on square-cornered pasteboard each card framed with unpainted stencil borders. The deck is rendered with an unusual eight-colour palette of dark blue, light blue, red, bright green, bright yellow, peach, brown, and purple. French titles, titled on either side, with a single black line inner border, and numbered at each of the four corners. Upright & reversed fortunes at top and bottom sides.
In 1838 Simon Blocquel published a new version of Etteilla’s deck titled, "Grand livre de Thot." The new version by Blocquel is now known as the Lismon Etteilla. Simon Blocquel habitually used anagrammatic synonyms such as Blismon, Z. Lismon, Zlismon.

CONDITION: Very good condition, complete deck, minor amount of surface, edge and corner wear. Cards with foxing, browning, smudges, and some stains. Reverses show some fading, discolouration, and browning. Overall, an important and unusual early printing (see photographs). |
