Book bound in French cartonnage style, with elaborate column portal design on front and back, surrounded by floral motifs and geometric patterns in gold, green, red, and blue on dark red cloth boards. All edges gilt. Includes frontispiece.

CONDITION: Fair condition. Spine bumped at top and bottom. Some edge/shelf wear, corners bumped. Spine and boards rubbed with some loss of colour. Foxing and stains throughout. Boards cracked at gutter on both sides. Some pages shaken but secure. Owner's inscription in ink on front pastedown dated 1859, and bookseller's mark in pencil. Missing page with engraving torn out between pp. 20-21, but otherwise complete.
