DESCRIPTION: c.1880 Camoin printing of the famous 1760 Tarot de Marseille (TdM), realised with the original 1760 woodblocks of Nicolas Conver. The pearwood moulds were used for more than a century, and, as a result, the Marseilles Tarot by Nicolas Conver has been the subject of several colourings, with colours differing both in the palette used and the distribution of the colours on the surface of the cards.

This c.1880 printing and colour combination by the renowned card-maker Phillippe Camoin was made rather famous in 1930 when Paul Marteau re-designed the TdM that was subsequently published by B.P. Grimaud, Paris, France. Marteau coloured the cards after this c.1880 Camoin printing, using the well-known colour palette of yellow, red, blue, and green. Marteau’s redesigning of the deck made this colour combination famous, becoming perhaps the most well-known 20th-century printing of the Tarot de Marseille.
